Instant messaging is like having your own
private chat room on your computer. It’s simple and
easy to use. Whenever a friend on your contact list is online
at the same time as you, a message pops up on your screen.
And with broadband you can then send messages to friends and
family in real time. As well as sending messages it is also
possible to send files to contacts while in conversations
e.g. photos, school notes etc.
You’ll need an Instant Messaging program. With some
of these you can only contact friends using the same program.
But, there are other solutions available and the various providers
are now looking towards allowing messaging across different

programs you can also have a display picture which your contacts
can view while you’re in a conversation with them.
